Self Supported Sprint Triathlon

For those of you who don't know what a Self Supported Triathlon is go to 140dot6.com. It's pretty much a triathlon that you put on and do by yourself.

Today I saw that the weather was going to let up for an hour and I tried to do a sprint tri as my workout for today. I wanted to use this today as a test run for a half iron self supported triathlon that I plan on doing in early 2008. Here is what happened.

I don't have a wet suit so I plan to use the gym for my swim. I did a 500 yard free @ 7:18. My goggles started leaking after 75 yards.

Got out and tried not to run though the gym. T1 took about 8 minutes. I stopped to take a picture of T1 which is the back of my wife's car. I had to put my bike together & get my mp3 player.

Did I mention that the forecast was 90% rain showers - all day. It had been raining since yesterday and the roads were pretty wet by now. The plan was to swim @ the gym. Get on the bike and ride 13 - 15 miles. T2 would be at my mom's house since she lives about 2 miles form the gym. The do and out and back 3.1 mile run. The only problem is I'd have to ride on a pretty busy road for about a mile, then I could cut though some neighborhoods and get on some straight low traffic roads.

Well I was making my turn into the neighborhood when my bike & I lost control. I slid about 7 feet till I hit the grass. It hurt. If I'd had gloves on it would have helped my hands. I got road rash on my right hip and on my back right shoulder. My neck is stiff and I scraped up my knee pretty good. I picked up my water bottles, gels, and mp3 player and tried to finish the ride, but I had blow the back tire. I guess it was not my day. I walk 0.9 of a mile back to T2 and called it a day.

Well, looks like I'm head to the bike shop to get another tube. Hopeful next time the weather will be a little drier. For the record this is my first crash. Second flat tire.
Flat tires suck!
