So, with Thursday being my day off I planed to get some stuff done that I need to do. You know the usually things like get the oil changed, post office, bank, and the important mother’s day gift. I called Good Year and made an appointment to get the car worked on early that morning so I would wake on up and get started on my list. Got everything crossed off in record time and was able to get stared on my bike ride for the day.
This ride was going to be a 60 miler with a short run afterwards. It would be the last long ride before the Macon Half. I want to test out my new tri suit and nutrition plan for the race. I looked at going to Ashburn but it was a little too far so I found a loop thru Leslie.
While I was getting my gels & water bottles ready my Dad called to say hey. He was he was headed into Panama City and they had signs up about the Half Ironman that P.C. was having this weekend. We talked about that and then he went on to say that ‘Bad things come in threes’. He told me the reason he was going to P.C. because he needed new tires for his truck. He told me last week that the had to make 2 separate trips to the dentist. Ouch! He was hoping that this was the 3rd in the list of the three. I Laugh and we talked on. However I shouldn’t have Laughed.
Here is list of my three things right after I got off the phone.
1. I was all suited up and ready to go when I went to reset my computer on my bike and I couldn’t get it to work. So an hour later and another trip to the bike shop I get my batteries replaced and was ready to go.
2. Now when I get ready to go the second time the wind went from 1 mph to sustained winds of around 16 mph out of the south with gusts up to 25 mph. It didn’t take long to figure out that a trip north and south to Leslie would not work. I went on an out and back ride down GA HWY 32 towards Ashburn.
3. Finally after I got my batteries, and checked the weather to see how bad the winds were going o be, I walked right out the door and locked myself out. How Nice. I searched but I couldn’t find the spare key. Any other time I would have been screwed, but at least I had my bike & my cell phone. So nothing left to do but ride 60 miles. It was good timing because by the time I would get back to the house, my mom who is a school teacher could come by and let me in.
So, Karma taught me a lesson about when not to laugh. I hope things are evened out but just to be sure I watched My Name is Early that night and slept like a rock.
This 60 mile trip is the longest to date. I ran 4 miles afterward and was able to run pretty quick. My legs are fellin’ strong, I think my knees & shins are final health again. The plan is to do a long run on Sunday that is about 12 to 14 miles long. I would like to think that after this week if all things go as planed I will be ready to 'Rock' at the Rockin’ Roll Half at the end of the month.
