Why I Love To Run At Night

In Keeping with the Halloween Season. Here is a scary video to get you in the mood for some trick or treating. Warring! This video is not suitable for small children, serial killers, and non-runners.

Over the past few weeks I've been doing most of my running at night. It seems to be the most convenient time for me to run with work and family schedule. I did a lot of night runs over the summer to avoid the heat but I've just keep on running at night because I enjoy it.

When I run at night I find that I tend to run faster. Just like in the video I wander who is out there. I'm not paranoid about it but there are crazies. I don't worry about people as much as I do BIG Dogs. There are a few dogs that get out and wonder the neighborhood. I look at the dog / serial killer scenario as a challenge. After running X number of miles do I have what it takes to out run them? The night time air just seems to give me a little more adrenalin to run harder.

You can't beat running at night when you can look up at the Full Moon & the Stars. I'm just far enough outside the city that I can see a few constellations. I went for a walk with Sarah Jane last week and we could see Venus. How Cool! Just try to explain to my four year old what a planet is. It's pretty much hopeless. So, we just sang, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and made a wish instead.

One thing that does bother me is the amount of people who have the blinds open on their windows. Don't they know that there are runners out there that could come by and look in at them? I saw several doors and windows wide open. Whatever. I guess that is a good thing. Must mean that I live in a save neighborhood.

Bottom line is that running at night rocks. The cool air breeze and the sound of the crickets is so peaceful. Then after you done you sleep so good because your legs are tired from the run and so you don't toss and turn all night. Then in the morning you have to worry about getting up early. You can sleep in because you've got you run in last night.
