Training Update

Last week was the first of 20 weeks of training that I will be doing for the Augusta 70.3 Ironman. So far I feel strong. It was a consistent week of training for me and I hit all of my planed workouts. However I'm hungry all the time and I can fall asleep if I sit down too long.

One of the keys for me to getting in all my planed workouts was staying organized. I would use my off days & down time to stay organized & get my things together. What I mean by that is I would go ahead and get my workout clothes washed and put in my gym bag. I'd set out my work clothes out the night before so I could sleep in until the last possible minute & run out the door to the gym. I would make all my Gatorade for the next few workouts. I also worked hard once I got off work to get all the things done around the house so I could go to bed as early as possible.

Most of my workouts were early in the morning except Sunday's. I sleep in and was going to do my brick after church. I was hoping to ride & run in the heat because I've done any workouts after 10:00 AM. Well, Mother Nature said that it was time for some rain. I tried to wait out the storm but it rained pretty much all afternoon. Which meant that I would have to do my work out on my bike trainer and then a short 3 mile run in the rain. What Fun, Right?

Here is How Far & How Long:

Swim - I did 3 swim workouts covering 4,500 yards in 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Bike - I did one spin class at the gym, one ride on my bike trainer because of rain, and one 90 minute ride covering 26.8 miles. So, I got 3 and half hours on a bike but only 26.8 miles on the road.

Run - I ran three times for a total of 13.5 miles in just over 2 hours. I was most impressed with my runs. I averaged 9 minutes per mile for all three of my workouts. After training for marathons for so long it felt good to run faster than 10 minutes per mile.

Total Time - 7 hours 11 minutes

One Week of Training Down. 19 More Weeks To Go!

9 minute miles over 13.5 miles sounds like your organizing is paying off!
