Happy Columbus Day
I've been wondering what is the big deal about Columbus Day. Why are all the schools & banks closed for this day? It always seemed kinda silly because he was not an American.
But Columbus day is a big deal. It's about how the 'people' are always pushing the limits. How we try to find/ discover new things. It could be the New World, the Moon, Alternative Fuels, or ways to cure Cancer. Humans always want to push the limits to see what's out there.
I remember when I first started running a few years back. I couldn't run one mile around the block. But once I got one mile, running two miles didn't seem impossible. Then my long runs became my short runs and I just keep on going. Last year I did my first marathon and first half Ironman. I never thought I would run that far in my life. I can remember when 6 miles would have like running a marathon. However, I never quit because I want to push the limits.
But like Columbus we all want to go a little farther. We want to know what's out there. We want to be the first to do or to see. So, today not about a day off from work but about doing the impossible. Happy Columbus Day!
Quote of the Day:
Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle when the sun comes up you'd better be running.
(But, unless you're a runner, you won't understand.)
