Training Update / Race Plans

Right now I’m working towards the Country Music Marathon in Nashville, TN on April 25th. I’ve not signed up for the race yet but I will be doing it. Mrs. Tri Runner’s family lives just outside of Nashville so; it makes it very convenient for me to run this marathon. I’m told that several of my in-laws will be there to cheer me on. Plus Country Music Marathon will have a lot of local bands planning on the course. And I’ve heard that my brother-in law Matt Chapel will be singing with his band Whiskey Run.

I’m excited about running another Big Race. It sounds like it is going to be fun. I believe there is going to be somewhere around 20,000 runners at this race with around 100,000 spectators with over 50 bands on the course. How Cool!

I’m going to be on my own as far as training for this marathon. I was being coached by Brett from Zen & The Art of Triathlon. But do to some personal things, such as not having the expendable income I had to drop out from the coaching. I’m kind of sad about it because Brett knows what he is talking about. I’ve got to remember that Triathlons are a hobby. Races & Gear can be very expensive. So, maybe one day I’ll get a coach.

Right now I’m not focusing too much on my biking & swimming. Most of my triathlons will be in the late summer. I’m looking at doing a lot of running over the next several weeks. My plan is to get in at least three key workouts a week. I’m going to do one hill workout, one speed/hard run, & one long/easy run. I will do some biking & swimming a long the way but it will be mostly running.

Last week I got one hill repeat, one speed/hard run and a long run in. I did just over 26 miles of running in 5 hours for the week. I also did a little yoga & a little strength training as well. All in all not too bad concerning I did run a hard marathon the week before. This week I should be able to get in a lot of training. Mrs. Tri Runner & Sarah Jane will be going out of town. Home Alone = Extra Training Time.

While I was in Nashville last week my sister was trying to convince me to do the country music marathon, but unfortunately it doesn't mix with the rest of the races I've already paid for. It does sound like a good time though!

Sorry to hear about you leaving Team ZenTri too! You will be missed, but I'll still be checking out the blog to root you on. :-)
