Today is June 30 and we are half way thru 2009. Where has the time gone? I bet many of you guys have forgotten about your Resolutions but I'm try very hard to keep my New Years Resolutions. Back in January I made Nine Resolution for 09. This is a progress report on how I’m doing on keeping my resolutions.
1. Take Mrs Tri Runner on one real date every month.
This was my first one for a reason. I really wanted to work on my marriage. My idea is that a date night would mean that I would be spending more time with my wife with undivided attention. Now some dates have been better than others but I’ve worked hard to try to make my wife feel important. So far this year has been better than the last and it has been one of our better years of our six year marriage.
2. Take my little girl on one Daddy Daughter Date per month.
Not only did I want to spend more time with my wife but I didn’t want to leave my little girl out. Her dates have been a lot of fun.
3. Teach Sarah Jane how to swim.
Well I don’t know if I can take full credit for her learning how to swim. She has really tried and worked hard all summer on learning how to swim. But I do remember that she wanted to jump off the diving board one time but was too scared. She had not jumped in the deep end without a floatie before. She climbed up there and started to cry. I was standing beside her telling her that her mom & I would help but she would not move. So I just pushed her in. When she came up she laugh and swim to the side. Ever since then she has been swimming all over the pool. Either way I can check this one off my list.
4. Teach Sarah Jane how to ride a bike without training wheels.
I think this might be too much right now. Last year she feel off her bike and she has been scared of falling again. We have ridden our bike some but I’ve got to work on confidence first before I can take the training wheels off.
5. Read Three Books this year. (I know that sounds sad but I'd rather be running than reading)
I have found a way to read and run. I’ve discovered audio books. So far I’m a third of the way there. I just finished reading the book The Tipping Point.
6. Run At least Three Marathons.
What can I say? I ran the Disney Marathon in January, The Albany Marathon in March, and the Country Music Marathon in April. I can mark this off as done.
7. Break 6 Hours in a Half Ironman - Current PR is around 6:45
At this point I’d be happy with a Finishers Medal and a New PR. On paper I feel like I can be somewhere between the six hours and fifteen to thirty minute mark. But that is on paper and I don’t run races on paper. Anything could happen on race day!
8. Finish a Century Ride
What was I thinking? I could still work on this but right now my longest ride of 2009 has been just over 30 miles. We’ll have to see about this one.
9. Break 20 minutes in a 5K - Current PR is 20:50.
I’m thinking about working on this goal in the Fall. There will be a lot of 5K in town then and that will give me a couple of chances to break the 20 minute mark. But again what was I thinking?
Right now I can check two of the nine of the list. Three of the nine look like I’ll be able to do or complete by the end of the year. Four of the nine will be a challenge for me to be able to mark as complete. I’ve got 6 months to work on seven things which is plenty of time for me to procrastinate - no wait, I mean finish.
I say all this so that you guys can keep me honest and help motivate me to get all nine goal.
Life is Good!

:) I love you more than you know --- and I love our Dates. I look forward to them all month long, as I know that SJ does also.
For July, I am thinking maybe we can go out while we are in Santa Rosa... Just sayin' -- did it work? Anything to get out!!
Did I just read that you are going to be doing A LOT of 5k's in the Fall. Does that mean that I am going to be waking up early on Saturdays this fall often? Whoopeee. :)
And I guess the answer to my tagline question was yes... ha!
You're making some serious progress over there!! At least half of those are done or on their way to being "marked off" - right on track! :) I think the audio books thing is a GREAT idea, especially for really long runs/bike rides. Do you buy them from iTunes??
Very cool idea with the new blog too! That will be so fun to go back and look at next year. SEE - you DID try new things for Tuesday Trials!!! Good stuff
Wow, you have a lot of New Year's resolutions. I only have a couple. Good for you for finishing some of them. You and your wife are adorable. Congrats on six years so far..
